CIVIC ENGAGEMENT & OUTREACH
One of our greatest passions is to ensure all families in Mebane are food secure. We accomplish this by volunteering and raising money for several programs; Meals On Wheels, SAFE, Sandwich Ministry, and the Mebane Community Garden.
MWC members have been driving the Meals on Wheels route in Mebane since 2001. Check our calendar for open dates if you’d like to volunteer. Look for the “MOW-Open” to know if that date needs volunteers and sign up! Once you sign up, you’ll receive instructions on how to deliver the meals.
In addition to driving the MOW route, we help with a local Sandwich Ministry by delivering fresh fruit to families in need. We volunteer on a regular basis at SAFE, Southern Alamance Family Empowerment. We also promote and support the Mebane Farmer’s Market and organize the Mebane Community Garden.
Let us know if you’d like for our club to help facilitate a food drive or help with food insecurity issues in the greater Alamance/Orange County area.
In the fall, come support food security in our region by attending our annual Farm to Fork Dinner. This event features chefs and farmers in our region, and offers a five course, locally sourced meal in a beautiful setting!
Beyond the endless hours we work to ensure food security, we also raise money to end domestic violence through the Little Black Dress Initiative. The money we raise each year allows us to donate directly to shelters or to families who have been impacted by violence. Ask us about the LBDI and join us next year for this worthy cause.
As women, we understand the importance of hygiene and the need for young men and women to have access to hygiene supplies. Every year, we collect and distribute hygiene supplies to our local schools. We are appreciative of the Mebane businesses who assist us in collecting the supplies.
