EDUCATION & LIBRARIES
Our club promotes literacy and education in Alamance and Orange counties and Haiti. As an active member of Friends of Alamance County Libraries, we volunteer at book drives, stock donated books and work the book sale at May Memorial Library. All proceeds from the book sale support the programs for four libraries in Alamance County.
We recognize our local librarians with gifts of appreciation and thanks for the work they do. In an effort to promote reading we built and maintain the Little Free Library at the Mebane Bell Garden on the corner of Fifth and Washington Streets. In 2024, we partnered with the City of Mebane Recreation and Parks Department, to give away 50 copies of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory during Movies in the Park showing of Wonka.
On an international level, we financially support local teacher, Jen Roth, for her summer program in Haiti. Jen has spent over 10 summers teaching in Haiti and has made an incredible impact.
Over the years, we have participated in Read Across America, provided science kits to local elementary schools, and written grants for books for babies and for those in continuing education. In 2022, we created 9 videos for Dr. Seuss Read Across America and invited MWC members and Mebane residents to participate.
