CIVIC ENGAGEMENT & OUTREACH
In 2023, the MWC volunteered over 1100 hours in Civic Engagement and Outreach and financially donated to local organizations that serve our community.
Addressing Food Insecurity in our Community
One of our greatest passions is to ensure all families in Mebane are food secure. We accomplish this by volunteering and raising money for several programs; Meals On Wheels, Southern Alamance Family Empowerment (SAFE), Crosslink Church Sandwich Ministry, and the Mebane Community Garden.
We’ve been driving the Meals on Wheels route in Mebane since 2001 and deliver over 250 meals in Mebane each year. We’ve enjoyed a long partnership with Crosslink Church delivering fresh fruit each month for their Sandwich Ministry which feeds over 400 families every year.
We volunteer on a regular basis at SAFE stocking shelves and preparing the food pantry for customers.
Working with Veterans
In 2024, we started a partnership with our local veterans to gain a better understanding of their needs. We placed over 2000 flags on gravesites at four cemeteries in Alamance County to honor the memory of our veterans.
Mebane Citizens Academy
One of our newest initiatives started in 2019, the Mebane Citizens Academy. We are excited to partner with the City of Mebane to offer the Mebane Citizens Academy in the fall of 2024. This is a great opportunity for new and tenured residents of Mebane to learn all about our positively charming city. Registration is open! Click here for information and to register. You’ll find us under Community Programs & Events. The first meeting is September 12, 2024.
